The goal of this one-day, low-cost workshop is to examine issues relevant to social workers and other professionals who serve older adults. Lead for Social Innovation
Dr. John W. Borchert is Lead for Social Innovation and Public Scholarship at Innovate UNCG and affiliated faculty in the Department of Religious Studies. He is interested in how religious practices and media technologies intersect across American religious histories, particularly their impact on embodiment and death. Borchert is co-chair of the Death, Dying, and Beyond Unit of the American Academy of Religion and serves on the board of the gamevironments, the only journal dedicated to religion and video gaming.
Certified Elder Law Attorney
Dennis grew up in Wisconsin and moved to North Carolina to attend UNC Law. He is a Certified Elder Law Attorney (CELA) by the National Elder Law Foundation & Board Certified Specialist in Elder Law, Estate Planning and Probate by the North Carolina State Bar. Dennis founded The Elderlaw Firm over 20 years ago with the mission of providing local families with a Trustworthy Guide for the elder care journey. The law firm continues to grow, to help clients take decisive action to better protect themselves, their savings, and their future. Dennis is an author and frequent speaker and has appeared on television many times. He and his wife, Lynne, have two sons and two grandchildren. They also have two therapy dogs, Bella and Jules, who often visit our office and are popular guests of staff and clients.
Licensed Clinical Social Worker
Stephanie Deaver is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with over 20 years of experience in providing therapy and mental health services. Her extensive career spans both inpatient and outpatient settings, where she has adeptly addressed a wide range of issues amongst various age groups. Stephanie specializes in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) with a focus on mindfulness techniques, and a humanistic approach. In addition to her clinical practice, Stephanie co-owns Hallmark Homecare with her husband. This referral agency specializes in connecting seniors with qualified caregivers, ensuring they receive high quality support and assistance. Working in the senior care community has provided Stephanie with invaluable insights into the unique challenges and mental and physical health needs of the elderly and their families. She has worked individually with elderly clients facing the challenges of aging, loss of independence, grief, memory concerns, and emotional challenges and is excited to continue working and growing in this area.
Certified Laughter Leader
Leslie Sanders has been a Certified Laughter Leader for 20 years. She has presented Laughter Workshops to many different organizations over the years, including Hospice, Rotary, Churches, and retirement communities. During her professional career, Leslie served older adults in the Greensboro-High Point area. She started her work at Home Instead Senior Care moving through the ranks from Caregiver to Community Service Representative and Education Coordinator. After 14 years with Home Instead, Leslie became the Programs and Events Coordinator at Pennybyrn. In 2021, Leslie stepped off the “career ladder” to meet some family caregiving needs. She continues to “serve” seniors by working in the Bauman Bistro at Wellspring on a part-time basis. Leslie has a BA in Psychology and a Post-Bacc Certificate in Gerontology from UCLA. She and her husband moved to Greensboro over 30 years ago and raised 3 children here. She has 2 granddaughters. She enjoys hiking, reading and is learning the art of Amigurumi ( crochet animals).
Director of Growth and Provider Relations
Mary Manley is Director of Growth and Provider Relations at AuthoraCare Collective and earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Speech-Communications and Political Science from North Carolina State University. She currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Elon University Anatomical Gifts Program and is member of the Diversity Advisory Council of the National Hospice & Palliative Care Organization (NHPCO). Her work in the senior care industry has turned her passion into a 20-year career of advocating for the disenfranchised, compassionate, and quality care for seniors, and
the rights of everyone to die with dignity and respect.
Community Outreach Supervisor
Shelby Kline received both under graduate and graduate degrees in Recreation, Parks and Tourism Management with an emphasis in
Recreation Therapy. As a Recreation Therapist and Activities Director in senior care for 17 years, she has seen the enormous benefits of being active, engaged, and stimulated in all walks of life.
She loves being able to put a smile on someone’s face by engaging them in activities that they enjoy and find purposeful & fun. In 2021, she was hired as the Community Outreach Supervisor for HealthTeam Advantage. This position has allowed her to follow her passion in recreation therapy, to help engage both HealthTeam Advantage members and seniors within the triad area in the many events/activities that HealthTeam Advantage sponsors, and make a difference in the lives of others. Shelby also serves as Secretary on the Board of Directors for the Triad Honor Flight, and as the communications chair for the Triad Retirement Living Association. Shelby lives with her two daughters Sophie & Stella, and dog Sadiejae here in Greensboro. She enjoys live music, traveling, and being with her family.
Physician Executive and AI Expert
Dr. Jeetu Nanda, MD, MBA, is a seasoned physician executive with extensive experience in medical informatics, population health, and healthcare administration. He earned his medical degree in 1993 and completed his residency at the Saint Louis University School of Medicine Residency Program in St. Louis, Missouri. Dr. Nanda practiced internal medicine for 13 years and was adjunct faculty at Washington University School of Medicine.
He later transitioned into leadership roles after earning an MBA from Washington University’s Olin Business School. Dr. Nanda has held various senior executive positions, including interim System Vice President for Population Health, Medical Informatics, and Physician Compliance for SSM Health, a multi-state hospital system. He also served as CMIO for the Springfield Clinic in Illinois and was a senior physician executive with Cerner, a leading health information technology company.
Most recently, Dr. Nanda served as the Chief Medical Information Officer (CMIO) at Cone Health in Greensboro, North Carolina, where he was responsible for implementing and managing electronic medical records (EMR) and other healthcare technologies aimed at improving care quality through data analysis. He has been instrumental in utilizing healthcare data to measure and enhance the effectiveness of care.
In addition to his medical and business credentials, Dr. Nanda holds graduate certifications in hospital and patient care law, HIPAA compliance from Seton Hall Law School, and AI Strategies and Implementation from Harvard Medical School. He also completed certification in inclusion and leadership from the North Carolina Hospital Association.
